Press Release From the office of Mayor Shirley Douglas
Cedar Point Citizens, we have had several reports of
nuisance raccoons and related incidents. This season seems to be bringing in a
larger than normal population of the animals. Please do not be alarmed. These
incidents are preventable and if we all take the proper precautions we can
reduce nuisance raccoons and the risk of disease. We've started a Cedar Point
Community Task Force to assist in education. Volunteers will be coming to your
door with printed information in the next few days and will be happy to answer
some of your questions.
The rabies vaccine will be available at the Cedar Point
Clinic as of Thursday, April 7th for those who wish to be immunized. This is
not considered an outbreak or essential immunization so it will not be covered
under Canadian Medicare. Whether or not you chose vaccination, please seek
medical attention immediately if you are bitten or scratched by a raccoon or
any wild animal.
